Rae was born February 22nd 2018 on a ranch in Steamboat Springs CO. When I was given Rae I knew that she had a heart murmur. I took her in regardless, hoping to give her the best possible life despite the out come. However, I did not understand the severity of her particular murmur until she had an echo cardiogram.
On 6/19/18 Rae had an echo cardiogram where we discovered she has an open valve which should have closed in development. Fortunately this is something that is 100% curable with surgery. After a month of recovery she will have the life expectancy of any normal dog. The cost of surgery is $2500 for an open heart procedure with a potentially longer recovery time or $3500 for a catheder procedure which is less invasive and more comfortable for Rae. If Rae does not have the procedure, she is likely to die of heart failure by a year of age if not within the next few weeks.
