NOTE: We have started a Winnie the Pooh puzzle fundraiser to make this journey more interactive and meaningful. Each puzzle piece represents a donation. Corners are $200, border pieces are $50, and regular pieces are $15. When you sponsor a piece, your name will be written on the back. Original donors will already have their names placed on the puzzle. If you donate more than the cost of one piece, your support will be recognized on multiple puzzle pieces. Once the limited corner and border pieces are claimed, extra donations will go toward regular pieces. Once the puzzle is complete, it will be framed for the nursery as a lasting reminder of everyone who helped us along the way. Also, I just want to say you can donate whatever you can or want. Regardless of the value, we are so beyond thankful for your donation.
Hi, we are the Lawsons (Matthew & Kari). We are on a journey to grow our family while protecting our future child from a life‑impacting genetic condition that runs in our family. IVF with specialized genetic testing gives us the chance to prevent passing it on and give our child the healthiest start in life. IVF is also necessary for us due to other medical reasons, and preimplantation genetic testing (PGT‑M) will ensure our embryos are unaffected before transfer.
Matthew’s work insurance does have a fertility benefit that has been extremely helpful, but unfortunately, the genetic testing portion of IVF is not covered, and the costs are overwhelming for us. The testing is performed by Genomic Prediction, a specialized laboratory, and the costs are:
• $250 – Intake fee
• $3,000 – One-time setup fee
• $3,750 – Admin & analysis fee
• $350 per embryo – Biopsy and testing
• (If additional genetic conditions are tested: $1,000 setup + $500 analysis)
Before any embryos are even tested, the base cost is over $7,000, and with testing multiple embryos, our total will likely reach $10,000–$12,000. Along with the genetic testing, the medication for IVF can be up to $5,000, which is another hurdle that we have.
We are pursuing this not only because IVF is our only path to pregnancy, but also because doing this testing is our way of being the best parents we can be before our child is even born. We want to give our baby the healthiest start in life and prevent the condition that has affected my own life from being passed to the next generation.
Any support, whether through sharing our story or contributing to our goal, means the world to us. Thank you for helping us take this step toward bringing our future child into the world safe and healthy.
