A healthy heart for Shaun
Donation protected
A few weeks ago, Shaun Porter, felt flu like symptoms and was struggling to breathe. He went to the doctor and was prescribed steroids for pneumonia. What Shaun didn’t know and his doctor was unaware of was that a virus had attacked Shaun’s heart which was causing him to have extra fluid in his lungs.
He continued to struggle with breathing and had a fever for several days. Shaun’s heart could not pump out enough of the blood it got from the lungs and pressure was building in his heart pushing fluid into the lungs’ air sacs, where it didn’t belong. Shaun’s heart was working only at 20% capacity and was enlarged by a virus. Shaun would never use this devastating diagnosis as an excuse to not pour his love and joy into other people's lives and our community. We visited him and Cindy at St. Luke's on Sunday and he was as cheerful as ever.
Shaun posted recently on his Facebook page that he was waiting to receive a defibrillator vest. He received it yesterday and unfortunately it will be costing him and Cindy $3,700.00 a month. He is supposed to wear this vest for 90 days. The hope is that the medication will help Shaun regain at least 40 percent of his heart function. If in 90 days his heart function has not increased to 40 percent, Shaun will have to undergo surgery for the installation of a pacemaker and defibrillator. He will then be placed on a heart transplant list. Shaun faces a long road ahead in his recovery process. There will be a lot of follow up doctors appointments and prescriptions. None of this is covered and will have to be paid out of pocket by Shaun and Cindy. This fundraiser is to help in any way we can to defray some of the costs. Cyclists stick together and help each other out. Lets show the Porters how much we care about them.
How You Can Help
Shaun and Cindy ask for your prayers. Above all, they have an unwavering faith in the love and power of God, and they know your prayers will help provide the peace and strength they need in this difficult time.
We'd like to try and help Shaun and Cindy by raising funds via this Go Fund Me page for extensive medications he will need, as well as, to defer the costs of the defibrillator vest.
Even if you can't afford to donate, but you think this is a worthwhile cause, could you please help get the word out by sharing the link to your Facebook and other social media platforms.
Thank you all for your prayers and please continue to pray for him and Cindy. Your donation is a blessing more than you might even know.
