My sister and I have always had a passion for our respective careers. My love for performing and providing laughter as the greatest medicine, and my sister’s love for healing others with chronic pain through massage therapy. We always give 100% of ourselves to any endeavor we choose to pursue.
Performing shows all over the Northern California area, I overused my voice and suffered a vocal injury called Muscle Tension Dysphonia. This makes it very painful for me to speak, and I often need periods of vocal rest where I am unable to speak and must use an assistive communication tool. It’s hard to find a job that doesn’t require me to speak, which has made things even more challenging.
My sister also recently incurred her own injury as a massage therapist, which has forced her to reduce her hours and income. We went from two full incomes down to half of one, making it even harder to keep up with our basic needs.
I am now four months behind on rent and facing eviction. I applied for California state disability, but sadly discovered I was ineligible because my employer did not make the required contributions to the disability insurance program. The funds raised will go directly toward paying rent, giving us the stability we need while we both recover and helping us avoid eviction. Please give me hope in a time where I have lost my voice, my ability to pursue my passions, and the hope I had for my career and being able to communicate in the future. Any support means the world to us.
