Poet John McCrossan also known as the Evish Bard, was a working class farmer in Strabane, County Tyrone in Ireland in the late 1800's. As Ireland was hit in an economically depressed, post potato famine time, Poet John spent much time reciting, writing and seeing his poems published mostly by the Farmers Almanac. He won awards for his work while sharing some of his writings with his local church, community and family overseas. While it was unfortunate that Poet John died in his 50's in 1895, his poems lived on to be read by descendants and re-discovered by great granddaughter Rebecca in the early 2000's. 

Poet John was buried with his late wife Mary Ann and 2 children John Jr and Rebecca. Unfortunately, his grave has sat without a headstone for nearly 125 years. With many descendants including 1 granddaughter still living near Strabane and others in Ireland, England, United States, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, we are working together to raise enough funds to provide Poet John with a well deserving beautiful headstone. This will allow the legacy of Poet John to continue in his hometown of Strabane and even around the world. 

We ask his family, community and admirers to donate for this important cause. Anyone donating £10 pounds or more, can receive a full copy of Poet John's biography, obituary and copies of several poems. Please consider a donation that you are comfortable with as we will be sure to update you with a photo of the finalized headstone as well. Campaign will finalize on 20th July, 2019.
