Hi, my name is Jacklyn and I’m looking for support to help one of my tenants in Whitehorse Yukon Canada keep his home.

He is a senior who has lived in this home for over 10 years and has always paid his rent until this last year when his health took a turn and he was forced to stop working his hard labour job. He started to fall behind but was always able to catch up until October when he couldn’t come up with the full rent amount. He has been unable to pay November or December but he is trying to get government assistance.

As his landlord I have been trying to find local assistance as well as float him financially but I cannot continue much longer unfortunately. He is not just a tenant, he is a friend. He is a fascinating man who lights up talking about mechanics and technology. He’s one of those men who loves to tinker and problem solve. I’m heartbroken at the thought that I may need to give him notice at one of the hardest points in his life. At a time when he deserves to feel secure in his housing situation and feel safe at home. Housing should be the last of his worries.

I want to fundraise to get his January rent so he can at least know he has a home until February. By then I’m hoping some sort of government assistance will kick it to help support him going forward.

I know there are hundreds of seniors and tenants in similar situations here in The Yukon and it can feel so overwhelming that we can’t help everyone. But we can help this one.
