A Great Need For A Great Man
Hi. I am Ron’s son, Jordan, and I am starting this campaign for one of the best people I know, my dad - Ron Hudson.
He has been a humble person his entire life, growing up the son of missionaries in Guatemala. He discovered a passion for music and specifically guitar at a very early age and has spent the rest of his life pursuing that passion, composing beautiful guitar music, sharing his musical talent around the world, and imparting his talent to students of all ages.
He's never cared about how much money he makes or what kind of material possessions he owns. All he has ever been concerned about is showing the beauty of music and trying to inspire that same passion in others.
My dad has owned a retail music store in Houston, Texas (Memorial Music) since the 70’s. He has sold instruments/accessories, and taught music lessons ever since. Those of you that know him, know that he has ALWAYS done whatever it takes to make his customers happy. He would rather be miserable than upset a customer.
In late August, 2017, a Category 4 storm - Hurricane Harvey hit Houston and was devastating for him financially. The music store took on 2 feet of water, and the repairs to reopen the store were more costly than he could have ever imagined. The landlord agreed to cover the cost up front, but rolled the cost into my dad’s monthly payment over the course of his new 10-year lease. As a result he now has to pay $1,600 more per month to keep the doors open for business. In all, Harvey set him back about $200,000. Like he’s always done, he’s found a way to make it work.
On Sunday, June 24th, after complaining about stomach pain all week, he collapsed at his home after getting out of the shower. His wife, Angela, called 911 and then called me. He was rushed to the ER where they ran a series of tests. On Monday morning, June 25th, we found out that he has been hit with another storm – Stage 4 colon cancer. The pending surgery and chemo he will have to face is going to be nearly impossible for him financially. Even with his medical insurance it is estimated that the additional costs above and beyond his coverage will be $100,000 due to the aggressive nature of the protocol. He also has several employees (teachers) at Memorial Music that would be out of a job if he is unable to continue to sustain the business.
My dad would NEVER ask for any money, and I’m sure he would NOT want me to do this, but he deserves it. Please help this man, my dad, continue to live his dream in his last years and bring music into other people’s lives.
PLEASE do not donate if you are not in a position to do so. If you are inspired by his story, and able to help him, please do.
Thank you so much!
