With great sadness, I want to inform everyone that our safety director/load out supervisor at the Pontotoc, OK facility, Michael Thomas, passed away from COVID on 12.14.20. He fought the virus for 6 weeks but in the end, complications from this terrible disease over-came his system.
Michael was a critical component of our operation at Pontotoc Sand & Stone and will be missed. He has been with us almost since inception, working his way from an hourly laborer to a salary safety professional before taking on the additional role of our load-out supervisor. His advancement in our company is a testament to his work and dedication. Michael took it upon himself to get the training needed to instill a functioning culture of safety at our facility, leading to ZERO lost time incidents over the last 3 years and minimal MSHA fines – despite commissioning a new plant and plant expansion under his watch. In addition to leading our safety culture, he took on the additional role of load-out supervisor - managing the trucks, load out and scale operations to minimize wait times and increase efficiency. His impact on our facility, vendors and customers was profound and he will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to the best safety professional I have worked with, Michael was a loving dedicated husband and father of three. He coached both his sons and several of their friends in wrestling and was an avid football fan. He was well respected in the community and was always ready to jump in with both feet when there was a need. Michael would always figure out a way to help anyone. He always wore a smile!
To help seed the fund, Pontotoc Sand & Stone will be donating $10,000, with the hope we can reach $50,000 for his family. COVID came out of nowhere in 2020, impacting millions, please keep the Thomas family and all those impacted by COVID in your prayers this holiday season.
Thank you, God Bless and Merry Christmas.
