Our family is living a nightmare that no one should ever have to face. My sister, Charla, was shot in the head by her husband in a horrific act of domestic violence, right in front of the five grandchildren she's been raising and protecting.

These children watched their world shatter in an instant. Their grandmother, the one who tucked them in every night, cooked their favorite meals, and wiped their tears when life felt too heavy, now lies in the ICU fighting for her life. She has always been their safe place, their strength, and their source of unconditional love.

After being rushed into emergency life-saving surgery, doctors had to remove part of her skull to relieve pressure and swelling. She remains in critical condition, showing signs similar to a stroke patient. The doctors tell us her recovery will be a long, uncertain road filled with rehabilitation, therapy, and countless prayers.

Her husband is now in jail facing attempted murder in the 2nd degree, but the emotional damage left behind is immense. The five children are struggling to understand how someone they loved could do something so unimaginable.

My sister's three adult children and I are doing everything we can to hold things together, comforting the kids, managing her care, and trying to make sure they feel safe and loved again. But the reality is, this journey is more than we can handle alone.
