A GoFundMe For Brant's Recovery
Donation protected
On July 20, 2020 Brant was badly injured as the result of a fireworks accident. The firework was found on their property, but was not purchased or owned by them. This firework later exploded in Brant's hand. His brother Caleb witnessed the explosion but was luckily not physically harmed. Andrea and Mark, having heard and felt the explosion in the house, rushed outside and were assisted by neighbors in getting the bleeding under control and attempted to preserve his fingers. A 911 call had been made and a helicopter arrived at the nearby field to airlift Brant, accompanied by Andrea, to North Memorial Hospital near the Twin Cities.
Shortly after arrival, Brant underwent a multi-hour surgery. The (very well-qualified) surgeon did his best to preserve Brant’s hand. Unfortunately, due to the severity of the injuries, he had to amputate Brant’s thumb and middle finger on his left hand. They are closely monitoring the index finger of his left hand. The injuries to his right hand were fortunately less severe. Brant spent the remainder of the week in the hospital, getting his pain under control and undergoing a second surgery to change his bandages as well as close a large wound to his chest. Luckily, despite COVID, both Andrea and Mark were able to be with him in the hospital for the week.
He was released from the hospital on Friday July 24th, and has been recovering at home. Although he is doing relatively well (and other minor injuries to his body and face are beginning to heal) this injury will continue to have an impact on his life moving forward. He'll likely need future surgeries and rehabilitation over the next year(s). Although the full extent of that is not fully known at this time – we do know that Brant, Caleb, Andrea and Mark could use our support.
We have set-up a GoFund Me account for Brant and his family to assist with medical expenses and rehabilitation related to this injury. Please consider a donation if you are able/inclined. Well wishes, notes of encouragement and of course prayers for Brant’s physical recovery and their family’s emotional healing are welcome.
