Rescued USA shelter dog with rare skull tumor gets a second chance with an Australian 3D printed implant in the hands of a Canadian veterinary surgeon!
Support BLISS through this incredible transformation!
Campaign created by: Elizabeth Hart
Founder / Owner / Operator of Friends Of Emma Medical Rescue ;
a private major medical / critical care canine rescue home located in Fort Worth, TX - direct recipient of all contributions.
Abandoned by her owners at a Texas kill shelter, 2 year old Bliss fearfully awaited her fate.
Friends Of Emma , a local major medical / critical care rescue home located in Fort Worth, TX agreed to take Bliss into our program - expecting a "hospice situation".
Diagnosed with a rare skull tumor (multilobular osteochondrosarcoma) - it was found through multiple diagnostics that despite the growing mass inside her skull, Bliss is an otherwise perfectly healthy young dog - presenting with no neuro deficits or other concerns of compromised health.
Bliss quickly went from "hospice case" to "treatable" - and we had to find a way to help her!
After multiple specialist consults locally and extensive research - with no readily available options to assist - rescuer and founder of Friends Of Emma - Elizabeth Hart reached out to a skilled veterinary cancer surgeon in Ontario Canada who, through a series of advanced imaging, offered potential solutions to help heal Bliss.
Initially, Bliss was to undergo a delicate surgical procedure to remove the huge invasive tumor and then be fitted with a titanium skull cap (sourced from Brazil).
However, it was found - with the extent of complexity and reach of Bliss' tumor (requiring removal of the bulk of the skull as well as multiple affected facial bones) that a better option will be a 3D printed porous polyethylene implant created by an Australian manufacturer of human surgical devices.
Currently, we are planning the 70+ hour round trip journey (driving, since Bliss cannot fly) from Texas to Canada - while the surgeon and the implant manufacturing company work together as the 3D printed implant is designed and created.
We expect to make the trip in early June with a return to Texas mid-June, depending on the length of post-op hospitalization required prior to Bliss' release.
Because our original funding campaign platform for Bliss is now merging with GoFundMe (and will no longer be accessible as of July), we have implemented this page to continue rallying support and to allow folks to follow Bliss' incredible journey through this ground-breaking veterinary surgery, her recovery and rehabilitation - and ultimately, in finding a forever family of her very own once she has completed her treatment in our care.
We welcome you to contribute to Bliss and the ongoing major medical / critical care efforts of Friends Of Emma - and to follow the healing journey of those in our care by subscribing via the link below to receive the latest updates and fundraising efforts.

exists on the kindness of strangers, the dedicated supporters who follow our efforts, the loyalty of friends - and the shelters, veterinarians, hospitals, rescues and private individuals who view us as a staple in the rescue community.
**Please note - that we are not a 501c(3) rescue organization and your donations to our plight are not tax deductible. We provide for these little ones dependent upon the private donations of generous friends, family, businesses, individuals - and out of our own pockets. We are limited on both space and funding - as well as physical ability - so we are able to take in and provide for only a limited number of pets at any given time - determined on a "case by case" basis.**
Funds raised via this and all of our GoFundMe campaigns are automatically withdrawn directly to the Friends Of Emma funding source (US bank account) - with Elizabeth Hart - as Founder / Owner / Operator of Friends Of Emma, solely and directly responsible for receipt and dispersal of funds.
