Hi - We are Bob and Whitney Straub

On June 4th, 2025, Bob tripped over uneven ground and fell, resulting in a dislocated and fractured right shoulder. Though of retirement age, Bob was still working full-time as an Assistant Dept. Mgr./Meat Cutter in order to care for and support his family. Due to her own struggles, Whitney has not worked outside the home in many years. Thankfully, the Social Security she has earned is due to begin mid-August.

As we wait on Bob's State Disability to kick in, we've gone from living paycheck to paycheck to no paycheck. At 65, Bob has no history of falls or balance issues and was successfully holding a labor-intensive job. Now we are at a crossroads. We are doing the necessary footwork in terms of aid and support available to us, but we are looking at Bob's income being cut by 10% (most positive outcome for SDI), which means less income, but still potentially over the income limits for some programs. Also, instead of waiting another 2-3 years, we will be setting into motion the process to begin drawing Bob's Social Security/Medicare.

We have been a one-car family for over a year. Bob has always prided himself on his ability to repair almost anything vehicle-related. Our registration has been paid for this year, but we are dealing with our car not passing the smog test. Now, of course, Bob will not be able to see what he can do as far as repairs. We will have to take it to a mechanic and probably have to rent a vehicle for a few days. Obviously, the car situation is not a financial priority, but it is there and is a need we can no longer deal with personally or financially.

Finally, and the most obvious immediate concern, is not getting evicted. As I stated, we have arrived at an unforeseen glitch in our daily matrix. These are tough times for many. Your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes are also deeply appreciated.

In hope and love,

Robert & Whitney Straub
