A Girl Whose Frown Shook the Ground Book Art Fund

We all know professional book printing is not of little cost, nor are beautiful and quality illustrations to pair with a powerful story. Thus, Melody Trowell's upcoming book, The Girl Whose Frown Shook the Ground, is being illustrated by the very talented Amy Grimes, who recently illustrated Ann Voskamp's latest children's book. Her work is ethereal and fairy-tale-like, perfect for Trowell's story!

We instantly fell in love with Amy's work and she is now the illustrator for Melody's God-inspired fairytale. This book is fantastic and something parents will want their littles to read from ages 5-11. Amy will be painting a full-color cover exterior along with 14 spot illustrations in black and white.

At CPP LLC, we print our books overseas for quality, so that, plus funding Amy's gorgeous illustrations will put Melody's book at a high cost for production. Not to mention, overseas freight will cost us $500 alone.

We're asking the creative community to please help fund this wonderful book for children. It truly will be one children get excited about reading!

About the book:

The girl and her parents believe she is special because she has a unique birthmark on her left foot. Because of this special mark, they give her everything she wants to make her happy. But, this makes her selfish and demanding. If she doesn’t get her way, the girl frowns such a frown that it shakes the ground and destroys everything around her. In an attempt to minimize destruction (and embarrassment) in their village, the parents take her out to the country. But, her selfish demands bring more destruction as the family visits three locations (a barn, a mill, and a castle), each further from the village than the next. The final event, however, awakens a fairy who lives in a hollow tree near the castle. Upon meeting the fairy, the girl shrinks in size and cannot regain her stature until she undergoes lessons in selflessness, compassion, and empathy. The fairy teaches the girl that she won’t truly be happy until she learns how to put others before herself. Once she learns these lessons, she regains her size and returns home a changed person. The end brings a delightful surprise when the girl returns to the hollow tree years later to discover that her birthmark had indeed made her special, for she was to become the next fairy and help other children learn these lessons. She was special, chosen, all along!

The Girl Whose Frown Shook the Ground is valuable because our children are under attack by the Enemy. Christian values and wonder, like the works of George MacDonald’s and Walter Wangerin Jr., are quickly disappearing from the world of modern children's literature. Our Father speaks to our children through stories. “...[W]e are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). Stories are “good works” that will save the world because they reveal our Savior. The Girl Whose Frown Shook the Ground is a “good work” that brings back those values and wonder to our children’s literature and enhances their reading lives with beautiful imagery and language that respects the depth of their God-given understanding instead of simplifying language and speaking down to them. It reveals that each of us is a sinner in need of saving and that this world still carries the beauty of our Creator in it. True to fairy tale form, the characters are nameless so any reader may feel connected to any character as the Lord convicts their hearts. In short, this story will bring our children (and their adults) closer to Jesus. It will be a long-lasting book, good for read-alouds for pre-readers, independent reading for grade school readers, and classic reading for teens through adults.

Please meet our wonderful upcoming author, Melody Trowell, whose book spoke to us so deeply!

"Creating something doesn't have to be complicated. It seems quite simple actually, because when God calls us His "masterpiece" (Ephesians 2:10), He breathes creativity into our very being. We are creations made by a Creator to create. It's in our very being.
I live in Texas with my husband and three amazing children & teach writing full-time at a local college. I spend free time with my family & relish the moments I get to dig in my cottage garden, DIY projects around the house, read good books & occasionally write good words."

We're excited to get this book out to you in time!
Please spread the word with your friends, family, and co-workers to reach our goal!
