Help a student from Gaza complete his education in Ireland

My name is Cathal Seoighe and I'm raising funds to enable Mahmood Ayesh, a mathematically gifted student from Gaza, to complete his secondary school education in Ireland. During the past two years Mahmood, now 17, and other young people in Gaza have been completely deprived of an education. Although this fundraiser won't solve what is a disaster for all of those young people, it would mean the world to one student. Mahmood has a particular talent for mathematics, winning the Palestinian Math Olympiad in 2022 and 2023 and getting a silver medal in the International Youth Math Challenge. Even though he hasn't been able to attend school for the last two years, he has continued to work on developing his mathematical skills on his own and has even managed to publish an article, aimed at high-school maths enthusiasts, in an international journal.

Mahmood dreams of studying mathematics at university, but the universities in Gaza have been systematically destroyed. He would be a great candidate for a scholarship to study at a university elsewhere, but to stand a chance he first needs to complete school.

My family is happy to host Mahmood in Galway while he completes school, but he needs to get a study visa to do that. A study visa for secondary school requires that the student is registered and has paid the full fee at a private school. In Galway this means getting him a place in Yeates College, where the fee is €9,950 per annum. I am also fundraising for travel and visa application costs (approximately €1,000), for a total of €11,000. The funds will come to me and I will use them exclusively for costs related to Mahmood's education.

If it proves impossible to obtain a study visa for Mahmood all the funds raised will be donated to MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders).
