Update: The money Hafez needed has been raised for and sent to him. Thank you everyone for your generous donations! We couldn’t have done it without your support and we appreciate every donation, no matter how small.
The fundraising goal has now been raised from £2200 to £5000. From now on, any additional money raised will be passed onto Hafez and his family for him to distribute to other needy families in Gaza.
Hello and good day. My name is Aadam Iftikhar and I am raising money for Hafez Al-Rayyes, a Palestinian currently living in Gaza, who I have been helping with the University of Cambridge Engineering application process.
Hafez is clearly incredibly talented: despite the massive educational setbacks and other hardships he’s faced over the past few years, he has already been interviewed by world-class institutions such as the University of Cambridge and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he hopes to study Engineering (as mentioned above).
However, he is currently facing an increasingly desperate predicament. The utter devastation of Gaza has not only majorly disrupted his education but has also left his home destroyed and led to the deaths of many close relatives, including his father. Only Hafez, his young sisters and elderly mother remain, having to share a makeshift tent that provides little protection from the elements. With the recent winter storm in Gaza, their tent has remained flooded for weeks and they have been stuck in an unending nightmare, enduring long nights without sleep standing in filthy, ice-cold water.
Even with his life completely upended, Hafez has had no choice but to shoulder immense responsibility at such a young age. As the only surviving male in his family, he works long hours to provide for his vulnerable family, leaving little time for rest. Yet despite his best efforts, he has been unable to provide them with a better life, and it breaks his heart to see his young sisters drowning in the rainwater.
The money I’m fundraising for Hafez will allow his family to escape their unimaginably appalling conditions by providing him with the three months’ rent he needs in advance to move into a proper home as well as additional money for his ongoing living expenses. This would make a world of difference in easing his and his family’s suffering, particularly for his kid sisters, allowing them to live the dignified lives that every human deserves to have.
For those who cannot donate, please share this message with as many relatives and friends as possible.
