I am starting this go fund me page to allow me to spend time with and care for my Mom. My mom, Violet was just diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and has been given 1-9 months to live. Unfortunately, due to her age and other medical conditions we were told by the doctors that chemo or any other treatments were not an option. I chose to bring her home for her remaining days so she could be where she feels most comfortable and be surrounded by her family. I believe there is no greater gift than to be at home with the ones you love.
Having one of my dearest friend’s experience caring for her father on hospice, I know caring for a loved one 24 hours a day isn't an easy task and having to watch one of the people you love most in life dying in front of you is something no one can ever truly prepare for. I didn’t think twice about bringing her home as I know my Mom would do the same for me. Hospice nurses and aides visit during the week to show me how to care for my mom. I am thankful they have taught me how to do things like manage her medications, provide insulin as my mom is a diabetic, checking blood sugar, and so many more ways to care for her. This is something you don’t know until you are doing it yourself.
My Mom, my son Jayden, and I have lived together for more years than I can remember. We are truly a family unit in every sense. I feel we have such a strong bond and to know she will not be with us much longer is heartbreaking. My Mom and I have had many moments when we have broken down and cried together... knowing the outcome. I think of things like Jayden not having her here at his 8th grade graduation in May, high school graduation, his Gammy on the sidelines at his basketball games, and so much more. My Mom has always been me and Jayden's rock thru thick and thin so the thought of her being gone is absolutely devastating news to all of us.
I am a single mom and provide solely for my son Jayden so staying home and caring for mom would be financially impossible. That's when one of my dearest friends came up with the idea to start this fund to hopefully help with giving me the gift of time to be by my mother's side. My friend personally has lost both of her parents and there's not anything she wouldn't do or give to have just five more minutes with them! l am sure many of you can relate to this feeling.
Most know I come from a very small family and I am truly grateful for my friends and extended family. The support they have shown is overwhelming. Please give what you can, I know the holidays are here and things may be a little tight but even a few dollars will help. Sharing this fund within your circle and to people you know would be greatly appreciated. Please keep my Mom and us in your prayers during this time. Thank you!
