A Gathering in the Hills: A Time for Healing
Donation protected
This fundraising page has been set up by Chantelle Balicki on behalf of Tim Eashappie and Carry the Kettle First Nation.
Together, we are fundraising for the costs to host a multi-day Gathering in the Hills which will be a time for ceremony, culture, dance, song and healing. All are welcome.
The recent news of 751 children found in unmarked graves by Cowessess First Nation, following the 215 children found buried outside a residential school in Kamloops, BC has brought tremendous pain to our community.
The truth is, these are not the only stories. The stories of these missing children who never returned home were known to these communities--they were not new stories, and unfortunately there are many more just like these.
Some are asking what they can do to support reconciliation, to find healing, or how they can put their energy towards something positive during this time.
As Tim shares, Elkwater and the Cypress Hills region is known as the place of thunder and lightening. It is the place where the Nakoda people of the region lived before they were forcibly removed to reserve land. The land where this gathering is to take place is a place of learning; A spiritual journey and a place to gather once per year to rekindle the old world with the new world. This is a place to make new friends and share in the common interest of Mother Earth.
Funds raised for this event will be used for travelling and ceremony expenses for Elders, Knowledge Keepers and dancers and food for the multi-day event.
Transparency:
-funds collected through GoFund me are subject to a 2.9% platform use fee and a $0.30 fee per donation
-funds will be collected by Chantelle Balicki who will transfer all money collected to Tim Eashappie prior to the event
-this page will be closed once funds have been raised for the event
