When most of us enter our thirties, we’re just starting to figure life out and find our footing in the world. We’re usually living day-to-day, and it’s alright, because there’s always more time to plan later.
When she was 33, Nikki thought she had a lot of time to figure things out. She had three young kids, a bartending job she loved, and a circle of family and friends that made her feel secure. Sure, she could always use an extra dollar or two, but there was always more time to figure that out.
Then, came a diagnosis – breast cancer.
No one plans on getting sick. Especially when you’re as young and healthy and full of life as Nikki was. For three long years, with the courage of a goddess facing down the scariest of demons, she fought back with everything she had. She battled and raged for every extra second of time she could get as if her sheer willpower could knock the cancer from her body.
For years, she had treatment after treatment, driving hours a day to get to and from doctors. When one treatment failed, they’d try another. Then another. And another. It was aggressive and brutal.
She was in misery and financially depleted, and still she fought.
Until there was no time left.
No one plans for a funeral for a 36-year-old woman. It’s not usually how things go. Yet, here we are. And sadly, as a family that has battled along with Nikki and had so much expense to try to win against this horrible disease. Nikki's time with us has grown way too short and we need help with Nikki's final journey.
Nikki is our daughter, granddaughter, niece, mother, cousin, and friend. We’d like to honor her and the battle she fought with the dignity she deserves. Any contribution towards her funeral arrangements would be greatly appreciated.
