Who is Bella?
Meet Bella Demhat - a courageous trans Kurdish woman from Turkey, currently living in Stockholm, Sweden. She's an inspiring artist, a passionate DJ (known as Ms.K), and a relentless advocate for trans refugees. Seven years ago, Bella had to flee her home country, leaving behind a life where she was a vocal human rights defender and an organizer of Pride events in Istanbul. Her activism, especially under the Erdogan regime, put her in direct conflict with both her family and the government, forcing her to flee her home country and seek asylum in Sweden.
Why Does Bella Need Your Help?
The Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) has several times rejected her asylum request, and now she is waiting for a decision from the FN Human Rights court. Bella's situation is truly concerning and it's a shame that she has to face such barriers in her pursuit of a better life. Bella's journey towards living her truth has been fraught with challenges.
In Sweden, while she awaits a decision from the FN Human Rights court, her asylum status has barred her from working, severely limiting her access to crucial medical care, including hormone therapy and transition-related surgeries. The cost for these surgeries, essential for her transition, amounts to 124,000 SEK.
