If you know Kelley Robinson you know her love and passion for the animals around her and has always put their welfare above her own. Junior has just recently been diagnosed with diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and he is currently undergoing treatment at the emergency veterinary hospital.

Diabetic ketoacidosis is a serious medical emergency that occurs when the blood sugar level in a dog's body becomes dangerously high from lack of insulin production. The body cannot use glucose properly without insulin, so blood glucose levels get very high, and the body creates ketone bodies from fat as an emergency fuel source. Ketone levels increase resulting in a shift in the body's acid/base balance. The body becomes more acidic (acidosis) and it can't maintain appropriate fluid balance. The electrolyte (mineral) balance becomes disrupted, which can lead to abnormal heart rhythms and abnormal muscle function. If left untreated, diabetic ketoacidosis is fatal.

He will need intensive in-hospital treatments for the next few days. The vet hospital has quoted it would cost around 10,000$ to lead Junior onto a road to recovery.
