The accident:
On March 18th, Leslie was heading home from work and had just gone through the lights by tank farm road on HWY 37 when she realized that there was a small SUV speeding in her lane. She was able to get over completely onto the shoulder, but the SUV that was still going 80-100km/hr hit her car head on, along the driver’s side and ripped off most of her driver’s door. They needed to use the jaws to get the rest of the door off before she was rushed to KGH and was in hospital for 4 days.
The injuries:
Her injuries from the accident are extensive soft tissue damage on her left side, which include the shoulder, left arm and her elbow, which also had a laceration that needed stitches. Her left hip, knee, ankle, right ribcage and breast we're also injured and a Hematoma occurred on her complete lower abdomen. She is also dealing with post concussion symptoms.
Her recovery:
Leslie is on the road to recovery and goes twice a week to physio and attends multiple doctors’ appointments and further assessments.
The costs:
Leslie helps take care of her parents who have multiple health issues and is the main provider for her household. She had to return to work as she is a single mom and couldn’t afford living off E.I for her recovery only receiving 55% of her pay. The accident that was at no fault to her has left her to pick up the pieces. As a result, she had to purchase a car to get to work and had to get a personal line of credit as well as use what savings she had for a downpayment for a house one day. It is unfair that due to the other person's careless act that she is left to struggle with these increased monthly bills.
