A Friend's Gift: Aid Bryan's Recovery
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Supporters,
We are reaching out on behalf of Lt. Jason Szabo, a lifelong Montvale resident and retired police officer, who is currently facing a serious medical challenge. In 2005, Jason was diagnosed with kidney failure and was in urgent need of a kidney transplant. His brother selflessly stepped forward and donated a kidney, saving Jason’s life. However, after 20 years, Jason has once again been diagnosed with kidney failure.
Jason, born and raised in Montvale, NJ, served his community for many years. He began his career as a Special Police Officer in 1993 and was hired as a full-time Montvale Police Officer in 1997. After a distinguished career, Jason retired in 2023. Following the tragic events of 9/11, Jason was among the first responders who volunteered to assist in the recovery efforts in New York City. His dedication to helping others is a testament to his character.
Now, Jason is facing a daunting challenge. Desperate to find a kidney donor or be placed on the transplant list (which could take years), Jason’s lifelong friend, Bryan Cirelli, offered to donate a kidney without hesitation. After extensive testing, it was confirmed that Bryan is a perfect match.
Bryan and Jason’s friendship dates back to childhood. They became best friends in 5th grade after meeting at Memorial School, and their bond has only grown stronger over the years. Bryan served as an auxiliary Montvale Police Officer from 1992-1995 before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he served as an Infantry Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. After his honorable discharge in 1999, Bryan returned to Montvale, where he worked as a mechanic for the Montvale DPW and now works for a local construction company.
While Bryan’s act of kindness is truly extraordinary, we are now seeking your help to support him during his recovery. He will be out of work for at least two months without pay, and the financial strain will be significant. We are asking for your assistance to provide Bryan with the resources he needs to focus on his recovery, without the added stress of mounting expenses.
Jason has specifically requested that any donations be made for Bryan, as a way to honor his friend’s life-changing, selfless decision. Your generosity will make a world of difference during this challenging time. If you are unable to contribute financially, sharing this campaign with your network can also have a tremendous impact. Every share and word of encouragement helps us move one step closer to our goal.
Thank you for taking the time to read Jason and Bryan’s story, and for considering supporting their journey to recovery. Your kindness and support mean more than words can express.
Sincerely,
Montvale PBA
