GOD MORNING TO ALL MY PEEPS
I hope everyone is in good health and spirits as you read this. As you all know, I have been fighting cancer for many years now. Brain cancer and surgery in 1996. Then breast cancer and surgery in 2004. Now colon cancer and a double surgery in 2014. I am still praying to GOD and fighting that devil called CANCER!! This has been a battle and a half for me, to say the least.
My usual routine is to go to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) located in Newnan, Georgia every 2-3 weeks for my chemotherapy treatments. I also see a nutritionist, an acupuncture doctor, and sometimes I may have to have X-rays done or a CT scan or some light surgery if warranted.
As a medicare recipient I used to receive a 50% discount on all of my overnight stays. The fee was $45 and now, since the New Year, all of their prices have risen drastically. I now have to pay $100 per night. I usually stay for 2-3 days but sometimes I have to stay longer. For instance, 3 weeks ago I had to get stomach surgery. That was a surprise to me. I did not have any extra money to stay on site so I got a blanket from the house keeping staff and I slept on the couch in the lounge on the 3rd floor. Listen.....a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do sometimes.
We used to get complimentary food at the center last year. Then about 5 months ago we got a 30% discount. Now there is no food discounts at all. The prices are totally outrageous. For instance, I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and it cost me $5.49. Geeez Louise.
My airfare can be ridiculously high at times. If I need a Sunday to travel it's gonna cost a lot more than any other day. For instance, last week I booked a flight on Frontier air. If I return home on Sunday it would cost $350 to $400. If I stay an extra day, until Monday, my airfare would be only $53. Of course I stayed there until Monday but now I had to sleep in the lounge again. OMG!! It was so darn uncomfortable but I didn't have another choice.
My income has has been somewhat challenging these past few months due to my regular bills and having an 18 year old in his first year of college. I don't get child support payments. I have my pension check which does not stretch too far these days. My son is 18 now so he doesn't get that extra money from social security anymore. Shucks. That really helped us a lot. He goes to classes and then he has a part time job which he uses to buy gas for his car and some groceries. I never thought a time would come in my life that I would ever have to ask anyone for help or assistance but I have to ask all my peeps for help. I really need help.
