Raising $ to Help with In Home Care
Donation protected
(Update, 10.06.18) Friends, I NEED YOUR HELP! Raising money for Papá Sanchez's in-home care - which in NYC, is significant! $10, $20, $40...$50-$100 if you have it! Any amount helps and is VERY much appreciated!!!
The goal for this fund is $15,000 total, which will provide 9 weeks of in-home care and we're currently about $7,000 short.
Please read the backstory for this fund as well as the updates below. It's been a rough journey this year for the Sanchez family and we want to do ANYTHING we can to relieve a little pressure and stress.
Appreciate your help and consideration!!! Please donate if you can!
Thank you!
Tam and Team Sanchez

BACKSTORY FOR THIS GoFundMe EFFORT:
If living in NYC has taught me anything, our friends are our family. We are there for each other - supporting, laughing, debating, taking care of each other (as needed) through all of it.
For 6+ years, our dear friend Alexa (and Tom too) have been helping Alexa's mom Gladys fight cancer. It's been an extreme battle with small wins along the way, but unfortunately 6 months ago, Cancer won the fight as a new tumor invaded Gladys spine - one that can't be operated on and/or solved with radiation/chemo. For the last 6 months Gladys has been in/out of the hospital. She’s now home with private in-home (and occasional Hospice care), allowing Gladys to be most comfortable, surrounded by those who love her.
As if one parent dealing with tragedy isn't enough, Alexa's poor dad Miguel fell while out shopping, broke his hip, had a cardiac arrest (post hip surgery) and went into kidney failure all within weeks. As you'd expect of a Sanchez (or exactly what we'd expect knowing Alexa so well), Miguel fought back over 4 months in rehab. He’s now home with Gladys, his wife of 61 years, but also in need of full-time care and PT.
Watching a friend lose a parent to cancer (or for any reason, that is) is an awful and very sad experience. Watching a friend nursing / losing two ailing parents is an egregious tragedy.
Alexa's friends, also Tom, have no idea how Alexa has managed it all. Her strength and will is beyond what you’d think a person is capable of. Alexa’s personally handled everything in regards to her mom and her dad; I mean everything! We’ve also been extremely thankful for the loving support of her Tia’s at home, nearby family and close family friends for doing whatever they can during this difficult time.
The reality is, full-time in home care/PT adds up to significant amounts (especially in NYC), and those close to Alexa and Tom are very concerned there is not enough to keep her parents comfortably in their home.
As friend's witnessing Alexa manage this very difficult time first hand, we decided to start this GoFund page on Alexa's families behalf, as a supplement for her parents care. Right now, the cost of (just) the FT in-home care / PT is +$7.5K/month, none of which is covered by Medicare. We're all hoping that whatever we can contribute together, while small to us (in bits i.e., $10, $20, $50) will make a significant difference for Alexa, Tom and her parents. And, if anything, relieve a small amount of the significant stress she's under to keep her parents comfortable during this very tough time.
If any of the raised funds are unspent, Alexa plans to donate monies to a Cancer foundation of the families choice to help other families, who might be in a similar predicament.
Thank you again for your support and love!
