a friend after losing everything in a fire

Hi,

I am starting this fundraiser to help support a friend who just lost everything after his apartment caught fire. He was able to hold on to his laptop, but has lost all of his furniture, clothing, shoes, keepsakes, important documents, photos, bedroom, kitchen items, etc.

I can't help but look around my apartment since it happened and wonder how much I would miss little things like the chairs I got at a steal on facebook marketplace, my plants I've raised for years, my artwork I've spent years and years and years collecting, and feel an overwhelming sense of what he's going through. I am collecting funds on his behalf because it is difficult to ask for help and even more difficult to coordinate when you don't have a home.

I'm a nurse midwife, educator, and anti-racism organizer. I live in Baltimore and value my friendships above most things. I will be sending him money as it comes in and happy to forward messages of encouragement as well. All of the money will be used to help him pay rent at a new place, buy new clothes and furniture, and replace any other lost items.
