A Fresh Start by the sea to Escape a Housing Nightmare
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Alan Hewlett, and I'm reaching out because my wife and I are at a desperate crossroads. For too long, our current housing situation in Sutton has been an unbearable source of mental torture. We are currently facing a Section 21 eviction notice, meaning we will soon be homeless, and the official channels we've turned to have left us feeling completely abandoned.
Our pleas to the council about finding an affordable, stable place to live have fallen on deaf ears. To make matters worse, our application for Universal Credit was recently denied, plunging us into severe financial hardship on top of our housing crisis.
The emotional toll of this has become life-threatening. My wife has started self-harming again due to the extreme stress and hopelessness, and both of us are experiencing suicidal thoughts. We have communicated this dire situation to the council, but shockingly, they have not deemed our suicidal ideation urgent enough to provide real help. This inaction is terrifying.
As a neurodivergent individual, navigating this impossible bureaucracy and the sheer uncertainty of losing our home is exponentially more challenging, pushing us past our breaking point.
We aren't looking for a handout, but a lifeline – a chance for a fresh start. We're hoping to move to Sussex, to create a new, safe, and stable home away from the trauma of our current situation. We believe a change of environment, with its strong sense of community and different opportunities, could offer us the desperately needed fresh air for our mental health.
We both work part-time and have clear UK credit histories for the past six years. We're quiet tenants, have no pets or kids, and neither of us smoke. We're simply two individuals who have been let down by the system and are fighting for our right to stability and mental well-being.
Your donation, no matter how small, would directly contribute to:
Securing a deposit and first month's rent in sussex.
Covering essential moving costs.
Setting up a basic, safe home.
Providing a crucial financial buffer while we find our footing and secure new work in a new city.
Allowing us to access immediate mental health support in a new area as we settle.
This isn't just about moving house; it's about escaping a living nightmare and fighting for our lives. Please help us find a safe, stable haven where we can begin to heal and rebuild.
Thank you for reading our story, for your compassion, and for any support you can offer.
With deepest gratitude
