On March 8 – just this last Monday, Nate lost his mother to COVID. Even more, there is almost no safety net and likely no inheritance. He and his mother, Stacey, have lived in an apartment that he will need to leave in the next few weeks. Throughout the last few years, with his mother’s increasingly failing health, Nate was thrust into the role of caregiver and has learned many skills that will help him become independent – but that meant he needed to push back his own dreams too. So a new chapter begins, but now? Please help Nate with this new chapter, to help him pay for the essentials. He will work more hours, get insurance, and go back to school, but needs some assistance during the transition.
What can we say about Nate that all those who love him don’t already know? How can we express in words the kind of love, strength, compassion and devotion it takes for a child to care for an ailing parent... To watch the progression of an illness... wait for the next fall, the next emergency... Fear the future, while at the same time, have hopes and dreams for his own future....
Funny, talented, sweet, compassionate... these all describe our Nate. Nate, who had to grow up too fast, be a caretaker too fast. And yet, at 22, has not had the opportunity to ‘be’ a young, free-spirited young adult. Now, suffering the loss of his beloved mother Stacey, Nate needs our support. A means to get started, when he is ready to do so... There is no inheritance that we know of, so he will be starting from scratch. He will live with friends—until he is ready to be on his own. He will work full time, learn about budgeting and the ins and outs of the world of ‘adulting’. He has had to be ‘grown up’ in so many ways for so long... His new reality will hit hard and pose new challenges. We will meet him there and be there for him along the way. He dreams to study and teach history, and we would love to help make that happen. It takes a village. We are your village, dearest Nate. And we are here for you....
