My name is Maryautrie, and I’m a mom trying to protect my 6-year-old son during a crisis that has turned our world upside down. Last July, we lost my mom — the heart of our family — and everything began to unravel. In the months that followed, a series of administrative mistakes caused me to lose my housing voucher. Now my little boy and I are facing an unlawful detainer and must leave our home by March 13th to avoid an eviction on our record.

My son is trying so hard to be brave. He asks if we’ll be okay, if we’ll have a place to sleep, if his toys will come with us. No child should have to worry about things like this. I want to give him stability, safety, and the childhood he deserves — but right now, I can’t do it alone.

Because of my disability and mental health challenges, packing and cleaning our home by myself is overwhelming and physically impossible. I need help hiring people who can assist us so we can leave safely and protect our belongings. We also need a storage unit to keep our things secure while we figure out our next steps.

Our only vehicle — a Toyota Tundra — has a serious valve cover oil leak. Without repairs, we risk losing the only transportation we have left. And as I work to rebuild our lives, I’m also seeking legal help to pursue justice for what I believe was disability discrimination by the housing authority. I cannot take on this fight without representation.

Our long-term dream is to return to South Carolina, where my son can be surrounded by family, love, and stability. But moving across the country is far beyond what I can afford right now.
