On a road trip to Destin, my fiancé Dan found Dagny, a Great Pyrenees, shivering alone on the side of the road. She was emaciated and covered in over 150 ticks. When he opened the car door, she jumped right in.

Since Thursday, she’s been to four different vets. She’s being treated for severe dehydration, constipation, a urinary tract infection, double ear infection, extreme lethargy, and anemia. She’s also undergoing testing to rule out any emergency conditions and to get a full picture of her overall health.

We named her Dagny, which means “a fresh start.” And that’s exactly what this is for her. She’s unbelievably sweet, gentle, calm, and trusting, even after everything she’s been through.

We weren’t planning to take in another dog, but she’s part of our home now and we’re committed to getting her back to health.
