A fresh start for an Afghan refugee family

Donation protected
Hello. My name is Elise Alexander and I am trying to raise money for Manizha Khan, her husband and her ten year-old daughter who are arriving (on the 7th of December) in Ireland from Afghanistan as refugees. Manizha was a strong advocate and role model for women’s rights and education in Afghanistan. With the resurgence of the Taliban she was being targeted and has fled in fear for her and her family’s safety. Ireland has kindly offered her refuge and she is so grateful for this chance and for a safe place to bring up their young daughter. Although she and her husband are very keen to get back working as soon as possible there will be obstacles to overcome before they have a steady income. They will be able to apply for social welfare until they are working but there will be a lag time before this starts and although it will cover day to day living expenses it probably will not cover much of what they will need to start over in a new country. This fund is for that. To kit them out with what they are missing, to help with initial accommodation and transport costs, her daughter’s school clothes and books, compulsory English exams to get back working etc. I know the last couple of years have been difficult for many people in Ireland, so please don’t feel under any pressure to donate and thank you if you do feel you are able to.

Donations will go into the bank account of Nasc - a Cork organisation that supports migrants and refugees (www.nascireland.org). The funds will then be released to Manizha as needed.
