Friends & Family —
After nearly two years off social media, we’re stepping back in because it’s time: we’re finally leaving Canada.
God’s had us in a season of stripping away and rebuilding from the inside out. The road since hasn’t been easy. We’ve faced infertility, career losses, and isolation. Phil’s U.S. green card was even lost last year after 3 years of waiting, delaying us another twelve months — but as of July, it’s in hand. We’re ready now.
Canada has changed a lot since 2020. It’s become impossible for us personally to see a future here that aligns with our values and goals. Texas is our starting destination, hoping this gives us a chance to breathe and let our values stretch out and our goals to take shape.
Moving across country lines is more complex than we imagined, but despite the past five years of challenges with inflation, recession, and Quebec’s late COVID recovery, we have paid off all our debts including student loans and are going with only a small amount of savings. We never asked for gifts when we got married and always hoped to have a reception to gather everyone together, but our goal since 2021 was always to move to the U.S. It took careful financial strategy to even make this possible on small salaries, so we couldn’t make both happen. I’m reminded not to despise small beginnings, and that it’s only up from here.
We’re hoping for help to cover:
- The USD/CAD Exchange rate difference and bank transfer costs (our CAD money is burning fast)
- First/second/last month’s rent (with no U.S. credit or rental history, this is standard for first-time renters)
- Gas and small moving costs, last initial vet checks for our cat Freyja and meds for the drive
- Vehicle registration, startup groceries, U.S. cell-phone plan start-up costs, and basic setup in a new city
- Fertility-related medical support
- A runway to start work and launch our businesses/new social platforms
We ideally will be out of the country in the next 6 months, as we are in the last phases of selling our belongings and downsizing our apartment. So, by April 2026 we should be settling into new territory.
Your prayers, shares, or donations are deeply appreciated.
With love,
Kayla, Phil & our little cat Freyja <3
