A Fresh Start: A Community Laundromat with Purpose
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Colette, and I’m a single mum who has spent the past 10 years working two jobs to provide for my family and build a better future.
Just before COVID hit, I reached two major milestones in my life:
I bought my first home on my own as a single parent, and I was preparing to launch a self-service laundromat for our local community. I had the savings, the plan, and the drive. But when the pandemic struck, I lost both of my jobs — and like so many others, I had to use every dollar I had saved, not for my dream, but simply to survive and keep a roof over our heads.
Even through those tough times, I never let go of that dream. And now, with things beginning to stabilise, I’m doing everything I can to bring it back to life.
I’ve started a small, service-based laundry business to begin rebuilding the funds needed to open the laundromat I once envisioned. But I know I can’t do it alone… and that’s why I’m reaching out.
This laundromat isn’t just a business to me. It’s a place where people from all walks of life, families, students, pensioners, and those doing it tough, can access clean, safe, affordable laundry services. A place that makes life just a little bit easier.
And more than that, I want it to give back. One of the ways I plan to do this is through something close to my heart:
Weekly Wednesday Wash
Every Wednesday, our laundromat will offer free laundry or shower services to those in our community who are experiencing homelessness or hardship. No questions asked, just a bit of dignity, comfort, and care when it’s needed most.
How your support helps:
I’m raising $100,000 to help cover:
• Commercial washers, dryers, and installation
• Renovation and fit-out costs
• Licensing and startup permits
• Utilities, supplies, and staffing
• A dedicated shower space for our Weekly Wednesday Wash program
Whether you can give a little or a lot, every bit brings us closer to opening the doors to something meaningful, not just for me and my family, but for the entire community.
Thank you for taking the time to read, for believing in small dreams with big hearts, and for helping this one come true.
