We are raising funds to honor the memory of Maria Laura Tolmos, who passed away far too soon on 21 June 2026.
To celebrate her life and continue the work she cared so deeply about, we hope to purchase 1.16 hectares of forest adjacent to the New Generation School Garden in northeastern Madagascar. This forest will become a protected learning space where children can experience nature firsthand and develop a lifelong appreciation for biodiversity and conservation.
Maria's life's work continues to inspire us. Born in Peru, she was a conservationist and co-founder of Wilderness International Peru. She dedicated her life to protecting the Amazon rainforest and was passionate about children receiving environmental education. Her commitment to nature and future generations serves as a guiding example for our school garden and the children who learn there every day.
Through this campaign, we want to ensure that Maria's legacy lives on - not only in Peru, but across the world.
The forest we hope to protect is one of the few remaining lowland forest fragments in northeastern Madagascar. Over the years, most of the region's forests have been cleared for agriculture, including rice fields and coconut plantations. As a result, this small forest has become a rare ecological treasure, providing habitat for unique wildlife and preserving an increasingly threatened ecosystem.
With your support, we can permanently protect this forest and use it as an outdoor classroom where children can explore, learn, and connect with nature. Every donation brings us one step closer to creating a living memorial to Maria - a place where her passion for conservation and environmental education will continue to inspire future generations.
Thank you for helping us protect this special forest and carry Maria's vision forward.
