Hello! Beyond the Tides is a volume of poetry totaling around 80 poems. I have been working on it for around a year now, compiling poems that I have written over the last couple years. The largest concern I have towards continuing forward with the publication process has been on the financial side. With my current financial situation, being fresh out of college and in Graduate school, money has been relatively tight. Because of this, I have proceeded finding funding for this book.
So I am a 22-year-old writer who has always enjoyed the creative aspects of world creation and character development. However, I never seemed to be able to really find my voice. Over the course of my writing life, I have mainly inched chapter by chapter, rewrite by rewrite, yet even now, it all feels off.
However, two years ago, when I registered for a Creative Writing course, I found myself quickly becoming attuned to poetry. Now up until then, I hated poetry. I didn’t like reading it and didn’t know how to write it, so I stayed away from it in its entirety. However, as the story of my created character unfolded, I found myself writing more and more. It was the oddest thing, because when I have tried to write poetry for myself, it didn’t work, yet going through the life-changes and pivotal moments of characters I created did.
The first few poems I ever wrote, themed around a paternal figure leaving a small child alone and afraid, left me with a pull towards writing more. After some 320 pieces, I thought it would be fitting to share them formally with others. I have no fantasies that this will make it big in the poetry world, but I am proud of these 80 or so that I have compiled. Therefore, I would like to have them bound and printed.
Thinking about publishing and actively pursuing it has been very different.... mostly financially. Despite my interest in seeking this publication, I do not have the funds to spare as a recent college graduate. To hire a decent editor, pay for illustrations, and then proceed to the final formatting and eventual publication would, in total, cost me anywhere from 800 to 1200 dollars.
Therefore, I am reaching outwards to help a first-time author self-publish his collection of Poetry.
In that Place
Keep
Going
Onward, ever onward.
Where?
Perhaps to the sunset,
To chase a sun always setting.
