A Fire Took Their Home — Let’s Help Them Rebuild

In the early hours of December 14 at 1:45 a.m., my father, Robert Helm, 89 years young, was awake watching television when he heard a loud thud—like something crashing through the ceiling in another part of the house.

My dad has been weak and unwell lately and moves slowly, but when he opened his bedroom door, he was met with thick black smoke and intense heat. He immediately yelled for Pavlon, knowing their home was on fire.

With urgency, my father pulled on a pair of pants—no shoes. Pavlon, awakened suddenly, was still in her nightgown. She slipped on shoes, grabbed her phone, and together they gratefully escaped to the backyard just in time.

They stood outside in the cold, watching as their home of over 40 years was burning to the ground—the home where Pavlon raised her only son, Charles and where a lifetime of memories lived. To get farther away from the fire, they had to hop a fence, leaving behind everything they owned and created together.

Everything was lost.

By God’s grace, they have their lives. Had they both been asleep, the outcome could have been devastating. We are deeply thankful they were spared.

While my father and Pavlon are safe, they are now facing the overwhelming reality of starting over with Nothing. Unfortunately, insurance will not be enough to cover rebuilding—even the smallest home—or to provide for temporary housing and basic living expenses.

At this time, we have set an Initial $50,000 goal, knowing the extremely high cost of building materials, labor, and housing today. These funds will help cover:

Removal of debris, burned home.

Temporary housing

Clothing, food, and daily essentials

Immediate living needs

Initial rebuilding and recovery costs

This amount may not fully rebuild their home, but it will provide stability, safety, and dignity during an incredibly uncertain time.
