A Fire Stole Everything. Help Us Rebuild Our Life.

Donation protected
If you’re reading this, this GoFundMe is here because a family lost their home and everything they own that they didn’t happen to be holding when the fire started. Anything you can do, every single dollar will absolutely help. If you can’t help with a donation, please consider sharing this GoFundMe with your friends and family, your church groups, local charities, news organizations or anywhere you feel might be helpful. Already we have been bombarded with well wishes and helping hands and we are so touched and grateful for even the simplest act of kindness and compassion. There are more details about what happened below but just know that every dollar that is raised here will go toward helping this family to begin to build their life up again. It’s true we need a whole new place to live but right now we are focused more on the little things. Cloths, food, someplace to stay while we figure things out. Once again, anything you can do, from donating to simply sharing a link to this GoFundMe, would be so very appreciated.

Thank you for reading this and for all your well wishes.

What happened?

It’s January 4th, barely two weeks after Christmas, only 26 days before my oldest child’s birthday, 4 days into this new year, and our house — our home — caught fire and burned until it was all but hollowed out.

This is the third house that I have lost to fire in my lifetime. The first I lost when I was 8 — I barely remember it — the second when I was 20 and expecting my daughter — it was devastating. But this is by far the worst.

The fire burned for hours, flames flaring out of the upstairs windows as if to call our attention and mock us. Yes, this one is definitely the worst because, with this one, I had to watch the children look on, in shock, in tears, as everything they own, things they’ve owned since they were in diapers, things they got for Christmas just a few days ago, as all of it went  up in smoke.

We are grateful. We had family step up and reach out, as families do. Some helped with immediate problems — like water, a snack, food for the dogs (or shoes for bare feet) — others just to offer support and help us know that we’re not alone.

And now we’re here. My son and daughter, my niece, her mom, my parents, and of course, there’s me. Laying in a strange room on a strange bed trying desperately not to think about endless string of unanswered questions that the sunrise will bring with it.

It’s 5am… this may seem plain, and I know there are so many out there with problems bigger than ours, but please, if you’re able, won’t you please help us?

Thank you
