Hello, my name is Chris Marshall, and I'm reaching out with a heartfelt plea – a "hail Mary" effort to help me embark on a trip that could be my last true vacation. This isn't just about making memories; it's about reconnecting with the friends who saved my life and pursuing a lifelong dream of making a positive impact on the world. My loyal sidekick, my "Chewy," will be right by my side, as he always is.
The Time is Now
For the past few years, my health has been in a steady decline, and frankly, time is running short. It's becoming increasingly difficult to do the things I love. This past year alone brought a cascade of diagnoses: Stage 2 kidney disease, significant lung and heart problems, and a rare, debilitating neurological disorder. The reality has set in that this upcoming year is likely my last chance to attend the annual STLV Convention (Star Trek Las Vegas).
This convention holds immense personal significance. It's where many of my recently found friends – who have become like family – will be gathered. Without their unwavering support during my darkest times, I wouldn't be here today. They consistently restored my faith in humanity. The thought of connecting with them, likely for the last time, while surrounded by the very franchise that has been a guiding light throughout my life, and meeting the heroes who brought it to life, would be the most incredible, and possibly final, vacation I could ever ask for. And since Chewy already looks like an "attack tribble," he will fit right in.
Beyond Fandom: A Legacy of Hope
But my intention for this trip goes far beyond just a fan's farewell. I plan to use this unique opportunity to meet and network with representatives from the nonprofit and charitable organizations that will be present at the convention. I have a couple of ideas that I truly believe could have a meaningful and positive impact on our world. Leaving behind a legacy rooted in the principles of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations (IDIC), fostering hope, and inspiring others to understand that we are "more than the sum of our programming" – that by helping one another, we all grow stronger – is incredibly important to me.
I managed to save enough to secure my 5-day pass earlier this year, a huge step! However, saving anything further has become incredibly difficult, let alone enough to cover the rest of the trip's expenses. After rent and bills, I'll be spending every last cent I have, but it won't be nearly enough.
How You Can Help
Here's a breakdown of what I still need to cover the costs of this critical trip for me and Chewy:
- Gas: Approximately $325 to get from my home in Vancouver, Washington, to my parents' home in Tremonton, Utah (where I'll spend a couple of days with family), and then on to Las Vegas, Nevada, and finally back home to Washington.
- Food: Approximately $500 for meals while on the road and during the convention.
- Hotel: Approximately $450-$475 for accommodation in Las Vegas.
Any amount you could spare would make an incredible difference and be deeply appreciated. Your generosity would not only help me fulfill a cherished personal wish but also empower me to potentially leave a lasting positive mark on the world.
Please consider sharing this fundraiser with anyone who might be willing to help. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Live Long and Prosper.
