Family and friends, it is with heavy hearts that we reach you here.
On Sunday November 15th, loving father and devoted husband Frederick William Haas Jr. passed away at the age of 70. Frederick was born February 21, 1951 to Frederick William Haas Sr and Dorothy "Dolly" McBain. Born and raised in Revere, Fred was a familiar face all around town. Frederick studied Engineering at Northeastern University where the City of Boston quickly scooped him up, hiring him as a land surveyor. Whether driving the 4:20 AM commuter bus or managing the snow removal crews at Logan Airport, Frederick's work always reflected his profound care for others. All his years of hard work paid off with the opening of Freddy's Steak Pit in Pickering Wharf, Salem - a place where he could share his greatest passion with the community.
Frederick was multifaceted, having a plethora of passions beyond cooking such as woodworking, crafting, collecting and most of all traveling. On every adventure he would bring home a trinket for himself which he collected in an ornamented display in his living room. His favorite place in the world was where he spent his childhood summers with family on vacation in Harrison, Maine.
While Fred indulged in the simple pleasure of lounging by the lake in Maine, watching the ducks float by, he was equally happy when on vacation at Disney with his daughter Jessica and his wife Faith. Nothing brought Fred more happiness than when he could make his daughter and wife smile.
Frederick is survived by his wife Faith, his daughter Jessica, his brother Richard McBain and sister Kathy Boyington. We are comforted to know that Frederick will first be met by his lab Schnapps and will again be in the company of his beloved family, his mother, father and sister Sissy McBain.
We're reaching out today to ask for assistance finding a final resting place for Freddy. Frederick lived a simple life and at the time of passing did not have life insurance. His widow (a PCA) and daughter (a student) do not have the means to give Freddy the type of burial he deserves. I will be contributing as much as I can to the efforts but, having been laid off in September, I can only do so much.
Instead of a traditional burial Frederick preferred the idea of cremation. We are currently shopping around but understand that to cost about $2,000. https://bostoncremation.org/cremation
We would like to lay Frederick to rest in Maine, his favorite place on earth. The plot and services will cost another $1,500. https://www.portlandmaine.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1683/Cemeteries-Fees
Frederick's death was unexpected, and it hurts to watch his family struggle to cope with the financial aspect while still trying to process their grief. Any donation at all takes a little bit of the stress off their shoulders. Thank you for reading this and we would be forever grateful for your support.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Fond memories of Freddy -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Jessica and her friends have fond memories of Freddy as the designated concert dad. On what must have been the loudest car rides ever Freddy would chuckle as the girls planned their day. When they arrived it was Freddy's turn to relax, listen to the game or maybe even take a nap. But he was never out of reach if the girls needed help and was even known to throw a few water bottles over the fence to make sure his daughter and her friends were well hydrated for the show.
