Help Us Honour Uma’s Life and Give Her Family Respite From Heartbreak
On 23 June 2025, the world lost a remarkable little girl. At just 7 years old, Uma Tomarchio passed away after a relentless 5-year battle with childhood cancer.
This isn’t just another sad story — it’s one of unimaginable courage, resilience, and love. And now, her family needs our help.
Her parents believe Uma’s soul chose a powerful journey in this life — one that touched, softened, and awakened the hearts of many. Though her body could no longer stay, her spirit continues to shine — everywhere, without time, without space.
A Journey No Child Should Endure
Uma’s fight began in June 2020, when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) at just 2 years old. She endured months of intense chemotherapy, countless invasive procedures, and long hospital stays. But with the unbreakable spirit only children possess, she fought her way into remission.
Tragically, just one month before her ‘all-clear’, Uma relapsed. And this time, it was worse. The cancer had mutated into Therapy-Related Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (tAML) — a far more aggressive form with only one chance: a bone marrow transplant.
But there was another cruel complication: despite being born in Australia, Uma wasn’t eligible for Medicare due to her family’s visa status. With medical insurance refusing to cover the transplant, her family was left to somehow raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to save her life.
And they did. An extraordinary community from across Australia rallied together and — in an incredible show of kindness — raised enough to give Uma her chance.
Defying Every Odd
Uma received her transplant. It wasn’t smooth sailing. She later developed lymphoma (cancer #3), experienced multiple organ failure, and spent 45 days in an induced coma in ICU.
But against all odds, she fought back. Uma made it home for her 5th birthday, surrounded by friends, family, laughter, and love. For two precious years, she lived the life every little girl deserves — riding her pony, playing at the beach with her sister Solejai, and travelling to Italy to meet family.
Life was good. Uma started school. Her family began to heal. Every moment was treasured, every hug a gift. Her parents never missed a single day of loving her fully — living present, grateful, and deeply connected to the gift of each day.
Who Uma Was
To know Uma was to be touched by her joy. She was determined, radiant, and full of life. Her laughter could brighten any room, and her strength amazed even the doctors who treated her.
She lived with intention — even as a child — always on her own terms.
Whether life was easy or unimaginably hard, Uma faced it with her signature light and a quiet power.
She gave love freely, received it fully, and taught everyone around her how to slow down, pay attention, and feel what truly matters.
Her parents say she made them better people — more present, more honest, more human. She was not only their daughter but their teacher, their mirror, and their greatest gift.
A Cruel Final Chapter
On 19 May 2025, after complaining of feeling unwell, doctors confirmed the family’s worst fear — the cancer was back. Therapy-Related AML (cancer #4).
Uma began treatment immediately, the doctors preparing her for a second bone marrow transplant. But just three weeks into treatment, a devastating, rare lung infection took hold. It was aggressive. It was resistant. And no amount of medicine could turn the tide.
After a week of unimaginable suffering, the doctors told her family there was nothing more they could do.
Uma — always wise beyond her years — told her parents she “wanted to be free.”
In the early hours of 23 June, under sedation and surrounded by those who loved her most, Uma peacefully left this world. Her passing was powerful, full of presence and grace — just like her life.
Her soul, her parents believe, is now free. Still deeply connected. Still guiding them with the same love that shaped every moment of their lives together.
How You Can Help
Uma’s family — Lucia, Giuseppe, and Solejai — have faced unimaginable financial, emotional, and physical hardship. Despite their grief, they now carry the burden of outstanding hospital bills, funeral costs, and the desire to honour Uma’s extraordinary life with a memorial as remarkable as she was.
We’re raising funds to:
• Give Uma the beautiful, unforgettable memorial she deserves - likely to be hundreds of people.
• Cover remaining hospital and funeral costs
• Help immediate family fly from overseas to say their final goodbyes
• If possible, gift Lucia, Giuseppe, and Solejai a small window of healing: the overseas trip they had planned before Uma’s final relapse.
