A Final Farewell: Honoring Shirley Caluya's Life

Dear family, friends, and kind strangers,

My name is Alvin Joseph Caluya Azana, and I am the eldest grandson of the beautiful soul in the middle of the picture, Shirley Constantino Caluya. Shirley has been battling cancer for the past four years. On the afternoon of February 18th, cancer has taken its toll, but it has also returned her to her rightful place in God’s Kingdom.

For as long as I can remember, my grandma was the main support of our family and stepped in whenever my mom worked two jobs to raise my brothers and me. Shirley moved from the Philippines to the U.S., and from the day I was born in 1999 until 2017, she woke up at 5 AM every day, tirelessly working at a long-term care facility, picking me and my brothers up from school, and doing everything she could to ensure we were fed and healthy. She also made sure our family in the Philippines was well taken care of. It was always her priority to ensure that her family was well-provided for. Her loving, hardworking, and genuine spirit lives on through my brothers and me. She has been one of the many rocks in our lives, teaching us the true meaning of sacrifice, family, and unconditional love.

It's very rare for me to specifically ask for help, but my grandma would turn over every stone to help me. It's only right that I put in the same effort. This was created in hopes of helping my mom with funeral expenses and also giving my grandma—my second mom, a wife, the mother of three, and a grandmother—a beautiful tribute to honor her life and celebrate her legacy.
