A Final Farewell for a Hero–Honoring Gary Burns Life&Legacy
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and all those who had the privilege of knowing my dad, with a heavy heart, I share the news that my father, Gary Burns, passed away on Friday, May 16th, 2025. Heaven gained a true angel, and while our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the countless memories he left behind.
My dad was a man who would do anything for those he loved. He was the kind of person who never met a stranger, always ready for a deep conversation or to share a classic rock tune. He was a devoted spouse, a loving father, a proud pap, a loyal friend, and a stubborn spirit you always knew was in the room. He cherished time spent with his grandkids, cheering them on at their baseball and softball games, sharing laughs, and simply enjoying life. Whether you knew him for a moment or a lifetime, I’m certain he left a lasting impact.
His service to others extended far beyond his family and friends. He proudly served his country as a medic in the United States Army, earning the respect and gratitude of his fellow soldiers. After his military service, he continued his calling as a paramedic with AMED, dedicating his early years to saving lives and providing care to those in need. He was a hero not only to his country but to his community as well.
And, of course, like any true Pennsylvanian, he loved cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, never missing a game if he could help it. Those Sundays were often filled with passionate shouts at the TV, laughter, and the occasional fist pump when his team made a big play.
One of the things I admired most about my dad was his unwavering honesty. He held me and my friends accountable, never hesitating to tell us what we needed to hear, even if it wasn’t what we wanted to hear. He treated my friends like family, offering guidance, a firm hand when needed, and a place to feel at home. His presence made a lasting impact on so many of us, shaping the men we’ve become.
As many of you may know, my dad had been battling heart issues for years, yet he faced every day with a resilience that inspired those around him. Now, as we face this unimaginable loss, my family and I are doing our best to honor his memory with the dignified farewell he deserves—a gathering filled with love, memories, and the friends and family who meant so much to him.
While we have managed to put some funds together for his final expenses, it is not enough to cover all the costs, including funeral arrangements, bills, and home expenses. It’s hard for me to ask for help, as I’m often the one offering support to others in need, but this time, we need a helping hand.
If you feel led to contribute, any amount—no matter how small—will make a significant difference in helping us lay my dad to rest with the respect and love he deserves. All donations will go directly toward covering his funeral expenses and supporting our family during this incredibly difficult time. Even if you cannot contribute financially, your prayers, memories, and stories of my dad are deeply appreciated and will bring comfort to our hearts.
Thank you for being part of his journey and for helping us carry his memory forward.
With gratitude,
Shane Burns and Family
