Our family is asking for help during one of the most frightening times of our lives.

Our son is a happy, energetic little boy who is always running, playing, and keeping us on our toes. What started as a high fever and cough quickly turned into a medical emergency that no parent is ever prepared for.

He was first taken to the hospital after developing a high fever and severe cough. He was diagnosed with rhinovirus and sent home, despite still having a fever of 102.9. The following day, we returned because he was experiencing pain in his right leg. We were told it was likely body soreness caused by the virus and were sent home again.

As the days went on, his condition continued to worsen. His fever remained high despite following doctors instructions and alternating Tylenol and Motrin around the clock. He stopped eating completely and had gone nearly three days without food. The energetic little boy we knew was sleeping almost all day and barely had the strength to move.

On September 11th, we returned to the hospital because he could no longer walk on his right leg. Once again, we were sent home.

Later that night, around 9:30 PM, everything changed. Our son’s skin turned purple and yellow from head to toe. We rushed him back to the emergency room, terrified. His heart rate had climbed to nearly 200 beats per minute, medical staff struggled to obtain oxygen readings, and he was in severe pain.

Doctors immediately began extensive testing, including blood work, urine tests, stool tests, X-rays, and a CT scan. The results were devastating. They discovered that our son was severely dehydrated, had a blood clot in his right leg, and was showing signs of liver failure. Despite receiving multiple bags of IV fluids, his condition did not improve.

Because of the severity of his condition, he was life-flighted to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, where he is now receiving specialized care.

As parents, we are focused entirely on being by his side and getting him the treatment he needs. The unexpected medical expenses, travel costs, meals, time away from work, and other related expenses are quickly adding up.
