Hello fellow Bucs! I'm starting this GoFundMe to help a member of our security team, Felicia Faataui. A couple of weeks before our school year began, Ms. Felicia suffered a brain aneurysm while she was at home talking to her daughter (also one of our students). Felicia spent 4 days in the ICU, and 18 days total in the hospital.
I have no doubt that Felicia's health episode was partially caused by the intense amount of stress she has been put under over the past 5 years. In 2018, Felicia's brother was murdered in front of their family home. During the pandemic, Felicia's younger brother fell ill and she became his primary caretaker. He was diagnosed with cancer and sadly passed away at that time. Also during the pandemic, the entire Faataui family contracted covid. Felicia's father suffered a stroke and was in a coma for 2 weeks.
The entire time, Felicia has been her father's main caretaker ensuring he gets to his dialysis appointments. Twice a week, she wakes up at 3:30am to make breakfast, takes her father to his dialysis appointment, drives him back home, and then gets herself and her kids ready for school/work.
Ms. Felicia has started physical therapy to try to get back on her feet and back to work. Through EmPower and short term disability she received $1,100 for the month of September. That amount is not even sufficient to pay rent.
Every time Ms. Felicia faces a major life upset, I ask her when she will get a break. Having to carry such an extreme heavy load as one person seems inhumane. I'm hoping that we can come together as a community to take a little bit of worry and stress off her plate, and help our sister carry this load while she recovers. Thank you for all you do!
