First, thank you. If you’re reading this, you’re part of the village that helped raise my son. You’ve supported us through camps, tutoring, and tough seasons. We wouldn’t be here without you. Asking for help isn’t easy for me, but when it comes to Kingston, I’ll do whatever it takes.
If you don’t know our story, I’m David, full-time single dad who went from homeless with a 5yr old in New York City; to today, Kingston is an honor roll student graduating high school and heading to St. John’s University in Queens this fall. We’ve come a long way, but I know we didn’t do it alone.
Now I need your help again—maybe more than ever. I want Kingston out of the city this summer. I’m worried about the world he’s stepping into, especially as a young Black man. I want him safe, grounded, and focused on his future, not caught up in the noise or dangers here.
Kingston chose Thailand for his coming-of-age trip. He wants to train in Muay Thai, challenge himself, and find his next level of strength. This is more than a vacation. It’s a chance for him to step outside everything he’s ever known, carry the discipline from his years of rowing, and come back ready for what’s next.
I’ve always done my best to give him a strong foundation, but I can’t make this happen alone. I’m asking my community—our community—to help give Kingston this chance. Your support will send him into the world not just as a graduate, but as a young man who knows he’s loved and backed by his village.
If you can help, thank you. If you can share our story, that means the world. Every gift gets us closer to this next chapter.
With love and gratitude,
David
