A Father’s Journey Back to Life

My name is Bat-Orgil, and I’m writing this on behalf of my dear friend (high school), Darkhanbaatar Ulziibadrakh — a 34-year-old father from Mongolia, whose strength and love for his daughter have carried him through an unimaginable journey.

On June 19, 2024, Ulziibadrakh was rushed to the hospital and fell into a coma due to end-stage kidney failure. For nearly two months, he remained unconscious, and doctors warned his family that his chances of survival were extremely low.

But Ulziibadrakh survived. And he believes there was one reason he held on — his baby daughter.

On August 10, 2024, he woke up. He was discharged from the hospital ten days later, but he was in a devastating state: completely bedridden, unable to speak, move, or hear. Through his wife’s loving care and the tireless support of his younger brother, he began a long, painful recovery — from bed to wheelchair, then slowly learning to walk again with help. Now, step by step, he is learning to walk on his own.

But one major challenge still remains: he is completely deaf in both ears.

Since waking from the coma, Ulziibadrakh has had zero hearing. Despite visiting multiple hospitals and trying every possible treatment, doctors confirmed that his only hope is cochlear implant surgery.

His dream is heartbreakingly simple:

To hear his daughter’s laugh. To hear her call him “Daddy”.

The surgery is scheduled at Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi, India, and the total cost — including surgery, travel, and recovery — is around 110 million MNT (approximately $32,000 AUD).

His family, friends, and colleagues have already given so much. But this final step is more than we can manage alone.
