A Father's Heart Strong Fight for Life

Donation protected
This fundraiser was created on behalf of my cousin Arkadiy and his beautiful family.  To respect the family's privacy I have not included any pictures of them.

This is a story of love, determination, and the innate will to survive. My cousin Arkadiy and his wife Galina have been battling illness for the past 16 years.  in 2005, at the age of 31, Arkadiy was diagnosed with metastatic clear cell sarcoma of the tongue.  His treatment included surgery, 30 sessions of radiation, and  aggressive chemotherapy.  Following this, Arkadiy spent 2 weeks in a hospital isolation unit with neutropenic sepsis from chemotherapy induced bone marrow suppression.  A few months later, he was diagnosed with ischemic cardiomyopathy (weakened heart muscle) due to chemotherapy.

Year after year, Arkadiy's heart function continuously declined.  In 2008, a defibrillator was implanted to control a life threatening arrhythmia called ventricular tachycardia.  Today, at the age of 47, my cousin is in a hospital bed, hooked up to a ballon pump, awaiting a heart and kidney transplant.

A little background on this incredible couple.  Galina and Arkadiy were married in 2001 in Israel.  They moved to the US in 2004 with their only child, much like many others, for a better life.  Despite all of their struggles over the years, they maintained an attitude of complete optimism and passion for  life.  They are always first to lend a helping hand and never ask for anything in return.  Their only request has been and still is, "just pray".

Over the years, Galina has literally brought Arkadiy back to life 3 times, the most recent was a couple of weeks ago when she resuscitated him while waiting for the ambulance.  Hero doesn't begin to describe this woman.  She is a power house of love and strength and is desperately trying to save her beloved husband.  So much so, that she had to sign an agreement to cover all post transplant medications because their insurance refused it.  The hospital explained that these medications are for life and will cost thousands of dollars per year.  of course, this was a no brainer for her.  Arkadiy's life came first and she will find a way to pay those bills.

Arkadiy and Galina would never ask for help themselves, but they deserve a break!  So, I am asking for them.  Please, offer support in any capacity during their time of need, it would be greatly appreciated.   Aside from donations, I ask that you keep them in your prayers, as we need all the help we can get.
