My name is Shannette Phillips, and I am a close friend of the Cooper family: Fernley, Brennamae, and their son Jaheim, who reside in the Bahamas.
Today, I am asking for your help on behalf of this beautiful family as they face the unimaginable loss of their precious daughter, Grace Cooper lovingly known as “Amazing Grace.” Grace was just sixteen years old.
From the very beginning, Grace was a fighter. At just two weeks old, she was diagnosed with a rare heart condition and underwent open-heart surgery. She spent the first three months of her life on a ventilator and suffered a stroke that impaired her vision. Despite these tremendous challenges, Grace’s spirit was strong and radiant. She grew into a loving and vibrant sixteen-year-old young lady who loved God deeply and touched everyone she met with her kindness, courage, and beautiful smile.
On February 9, 2026, the Cooper family’s world was shattered. As Fernley went to wake Grace for school, he found her unresponsive. Despite frantic CPR, countless prayers, and the best efforts of medical professionals, Grace could not be revived. Her parents were left to hear the devastating words no parent should ever hear that their “baby girl” was gone.
In this season of unimaginable sorrow, we hold on to the promise of God’s Word. Psalm 34:18 reminds us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” We trust that even now, God is near to Fernley, Brennamae, and Jaheim, surrounding them with His comfort and peace.
The Cooper family is now facing not only overwhelming grief but also the unexpected financial burden of funeral expenses. During this heartbreaking time, we are coming together to help ease that burden and give Amazing Grace the beautiful homegoing celebration she deserves.
