Help a Veteran Heal Through Farming: A Family’s Journey to Hope and Purpose

Hello, my name is Jason. I’m a disabled U.S. Army veteran living with PTSD. After serving my country, I struggled to find peace, stability, and purpose in civilian life. What changed everything for me was something simple—but powerful: working with my hands in the soil.

Gardening and raising animals in our backyard has become my therapy. Farming gives me peace, structure, and a deep sense of purpose. It's where I feel most grounded and connected—with nature, with my family, and with myself.

Now, my family and I are ready to take the next step. Our goal is to purchase a piece of rural land in Upstate New York where we can build a small, year-round organic farm. With your help, I hope to make this my full-time work—growing healthy food for our community while continuing my journey of healing through sustainable living.

Farming would also give our family the flexibility we need during uncertain times. Our youngest daughter was born with a severe congenital heart defect. She’s already undergone two open-heart surgeries, and she will need a third in the near future. Knowing I can be fully present for her—to support her through hospital stays and recovery—means everything to us. This path allows me to care for my family while building something lasting.

Our three kids are already part of this journey—planting seeds, gathering eggs, and learning to care for the land with intention and love. We dream of creating a space where they can grow up connected to nature, responsibility, and purpose.
