On March 15th, my husband, the father of my 4 kids, was taken from us unexpectedly. He was a loving father who, in his last days, expressed that he wasn’t ready to go. But it was already too late; he was in renal failure and had issues with his liver, both of which we were never told about, although he went to the doctor on a regular basis. By the time we found out, it was too late. We were told on Monday that he needed a new liver by Thursday. We had heard nothing about the progression of putting him on this list, so I went ahead and made some phone calls, and within hours, he was accepted and put on the list. I was told that something about his medical insurance was wrong. They didn’t accept it, and I fixed it before 5 o’clock that night. I gave them the right information, thinking everything was going through.

The next morning, I woke up and found out that he’d been put on a ventilator because his respiratory system started shutting down. Then I called to see if they could still do a transplant if he was on a ventilator, and they told me yes. But then they informed me that he was taken off the list due to financial reasons when there was no financial reason. They originally had the wrong information, but I had given them the right information the day before. So clearly, it was a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing. Well, because of him being taken off the list, we had to start everything all over again, and in the process, he lost his life. He was gone by Saturday, having a decision to take inadequate oxygen to the brain. He was only 61 years old. He had a lot of life ahead of him. He would’ve just been told.
