Help Makito's Recovery After His Accident

Donation protected
On 5th December, my 10-year-old son Makito was hit by a car while riding his scooter home with two friends.
I am deeply grateful to the kind people who stopped, called an ambulance, and helped him at the scene.

Makito sustained multiple serious injuries, including an open fracture of his left tibia and fibula, injuries to his liver and lungs, a spinal injury identified on CT scan, severe trauma and loss of permanent teeth, and multiple abrasions.
He required surgery and strict bed rest for 4days and has since bravely undergone three surgeries.

It truly feels like a miracle that Makito survived. He underwent major surgery for a congenital heart condition (TAPVD) when he was just 28 days old.
From the very beginning of his life, he has shown incredible strength and resilience.

One of the most significant ongoing impacts of the accident has been the severe damage to his permanent teeth. Because of the trauma and loss of these teeth, Makito will require long-term dental treatment over many years, involving substantial ongoing costs.
At an age when confidence is so important, this has also been emotionally very difficult for him.

Makito was passionate about rugby and loved being a member of his local team.
Rugby brought him joy and confidence.
Since the accident, he has been unable to participate in any sports, physical activities and not being able to play rugby has been especially painful for him.

I stayed by Makito’s side throughout his hospital admission and have been unable to return to work since the accident. I am a casual employee and do not receive paid leave.
My husband is retired and later suffered a stroke.
We are also raising two other children, one in Year 7 and one in Year 1, while supporting Makito through his recovery.
Makito continues to require ongoing medical care, rehabilitation, and frequent hospital appointments.

I sought legal advice regarding Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance, but was advised that proving negligence would be extremely difficult and that no legal support could be provided.

Starting this GoFundMe was not an easy decision. Several Australians who did not know us personally reached out with kindness and encouragement, giving me the courage to start this GoFundMe.

Any form of support, including sharing this page, would mean more to us than words can express.
Your kindness will help ease the financial pressure on our family and allow us to focus on Makito’s recovery and caring for our children.

Thank you sincerely for your compassion and support during this incredibly difficult time. It means more to our family than words can express.

 With heartfelt gratitude,
 Madoka (Makito’s mum)
